The Associate Director of Music and Liturgy/Organist serves as the principal accompanist for Masses on Sundays and Holy Days, as well as funerals, weddings, parochial school Masses, and for other occasional rites, at a large diocesan parish of over 5,000 families, as well as additional duties as assigned by the Director of Music and Liturgy.
Essential Duties and responsibilities
a) Accompany weekend parish Masses in English from the organ (or piano as required), as well as parish funerals, weddings, plus other rites, and sacramental liturgies.
b) Accompany parish choirs as required, with occasional conducting responsibilities.
c) Assist the Director with administrative duties including upkeep of instruments, maintenance of music library, liturgical planning, preparation of worship resources, and liturgical formation for the parish and music volunteers.
Other Duties and responsibilities
a) Assist the Director with liturgical services in Spanish.
b) Assist the Director with music for non-liturgical events such as retreats, prayer services, praise, and worship events, etc.
c) Assist the Director with supervision and training of liturgical ministers, ordering and maintenance of liturgical supplies, and preparation of liturgical aids.
Qualifications
a) Practicing Catholic preferred, with minimum Bachelor's degree in music (or equivalent) with specialized study in organ and piano, sacred music, or other related disciplines.
b) Proficiency in accompanying on the organ, with basic solo repertoire (preludes, postludes, voluntaries, etc.).
c) Fluency or at least some basic proficiency in Spanish language desirable but not required.
d) Good vocal and conducting ability is desirable.
