Job purpose
Provide counseling and guidance opportunities to all students; identify and counsel students with diverse needs related to one's behavioral, social, and emotional well-being; collaborate with administration, StMS educators, and/or school families to most effectively counsel designated students; and make referrals to other community resources, support groups, and social service agencies, when appropriate.
Essential Duties and responsibilities
1. Provide individual, small group, and classroom guidance counseling to students; when appropriate, confer with parents/guardians, teachers, and others regarding the students' needs.
2. Prepare records and reports, parent communications, student referrals, and counseling-related documents and documentation.
3. Communicate with administration, parents, and/or external agencies regarding relevant referrals.
4. Coordinate school's counseling and conflict mediation services to enhance the students' communication skills.
5. Provide crisis counseling, as needed, during school hours and/or work time from home.
6. Consult parents concerning students with social or behavioral challenges.
Other Duties and responsibilities
Attend and participate in school meetings as required by the Principal.
Qualifications
a) Student Assistance Coordinator Certification is required.
b) Experience in Elementary and Middle School counseling.
c) Capable of demonstrating strong and effective interpersonal skills, especially verbal and written communication skills.
d) Capable of being proactive, well-organized, and excellent record-keeping skills.
e) Comfortable working with Microsoft Office products and school software as required.
f) Ability and willingness to learn new skills and continually grow in the profession through professional development.
