The Director of Pastoral Care and Social Ministries assists the Pastor in providing oversight to a multitude of disciples who volunteer for parish ministries designed to support the pastoral care of the parish. The Director is responsible for providing oversight, vision, and resources to all non-liturgical and non-catechetical parish ministries including, but not limited to, care for the Sick and Homebound, Respect Life, Environmental Stewardship, Knights of Columbus, and African Ancestry Ministry. The Director also supervises St. Michael's SHARES, the parish partnership with Catholic Charities, and serves as the liaison to our partner charitable and outreach organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
a) Pastoral Care and Social Action Ministries: Works with all pastoral care and social action ministries to ensure those involved work within parish and diocesan guidelines
b) Pastoral Care Desk: Oversees the operation of the Pastoral Care Desk/ office
c) Pastoral Counseling: Provides limited, pastoral counseling to those in crisis situations (walk-ins and by appointment) and helps connect them to other resources as appropriate.
d) Budgets: Develop, implement, and monitor Social Action and Pastoral care ministry budgets in coordination with the parish finance staff
e) Ministry Groups: Facilitate the parish bereavement support group and works with facilitators from other support groups such as Alzheimer's Caregivers and Divorce Support groups.
f) Columbarium Sales and Administration: Arrange sales of columbarium niches for current or future needs, maintains columbarium records, and coordinates with Director of Operations on columbarium maintenance and engraving.
g) Senior Ministry: Coordinate and oversees the Senior Social Ministry
h) Guest Speakers: Assist in locating speakers on other presenters to meet the needs of various parish groups.
i) Outreach Volunteers: Recruit, train and monitor a team of volunteers who provide outreach support to parishioners in need.
j) Social Action Projects: Oversees the coordination of the Thanksgiving Baskets, Jesse tree project and other outreach programs sponsored by St. Michael.
k) Community Representation: Represents St. Michael to the Diocese and other non-profit organizations regarding Pastoral care and community outreach (e.g., Habitat for Humanity).

Qualifications
a) Bachelor's Degree or higher in pastoral ministry, social work, or related field required. Some continuing education in theology, religious studies and/or Catholic spirituality also required.
b) Experience in supervising volunteers and developing educational programs
c) Experience in crisis management and conflict resolution
d) Knowledge of Microsoft word, excel and REALM
e) Strong Interpersonal skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with volunteers, staff, and parishioners. Able to collaborate on team projects.
f) Ability to organize and maintain schedules
g) Must be able to work independently
h) Must have a working knowledge of the precepts of Catholic Social Teaching and the Teachings of the Catholic Faith with completion of a formal, recognized program preferred. In addition to demonstrating and understanding of these principles, the person must be able to effectively communicate these teachings to others of various ages.
