Recreation Therapist

We are immediately seeking a Full-time Recreation Therapist. The Recreation Therapist is in collaboration with the Recreation Coordinator and Administrators to create and facilitate the recreation program for the elderly religious community of Sacred Heart Convent, Hempstead, NY & Stella Maris Convent, Rockaway Beach, NY. The program provides social, spiritual, cognitive and creative activities to enrich and enhance the Sisters’ quality of life.

Requirements:

·        Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS earned through four-year program of study and continuous updating to maintain certification) or comparable education, degree and/or experience. Master’s degree preferred.

·        Valid NYS driver’s license

·        Ability to lift fifty pounds and carry equipment/materials for programs.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to relate to the residents with sensitivity and understanding.

·            Must be vaccinated by date of hire, proof of vaccine is required.

Responsibilities:

·        Travel is required to two specific locations as well as recreational field trips when conducting outside activities.

·        Research and create activities based on capabilities, needs and interests of the Sisters. e.g. activities - crafts, games, music, discussion groups, spiritual activities.

·        In collaboration with the Recreation Coordinator and site Administrators, create a calendar of activities for each site.

·        Maintain up to date knowledge and skill in geriatrics and dementia to ensure quality care of the Sisters.

·        Operate and maintain all equipment/supplies necessary for the implementation of programs.

·        Performs any other duties as assigned in the best interest of the Sisters and staff.
