GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Coordinator of Religious Education is responsible for organizing and implementing program elements; manages the office functions while engaging parishioners, staff members and students. Individual must be a practicing Catholic fully aware of/engaging with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Coordinator of Religious Education and Youth Ministry Responsibilities:
a. Manages office function (parish reception/registrations/communications)
b. Maintains program communication with Faith Formation family members
c. Manages reporting functions on program registrations and online activity
d. Ensures that program resources are well organized and distributed on timely basis
e. Manages Catechist and student setup and access to St. Mary school buildings
f. Presents a welcoming and friendly environment for parishioners and staff
g. Supports administration of sacramental preparation programs/Faith Formation events
B. Program responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
a. Religious education program for elementary, middle, and high school students
b. Assisting Director of Faith Formation and supporting parish staff members
c. Organizing/supporting Summer Faith Formation Program
d. Retreat activity preparation for Confirmation and other liturgical celebrations for special occasions as appropriate.
C. Administrative Responsibilities:
a. Maintains regular communication with the Pastor/DFF and members of the parish staff.
b. Maintains regular office hours
c. Maintains/updates Faith Formation website content
d. Organizes/maintains Faith Formation year calendar of events
e. Ready to report on program effectiveness and opportunities for growth
f. Ensures that all programs have the resources needed to be effective (e.g. textbooks, technology, materials)
SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:
1. Is a practicing Catholic with knowledge of the Catechism of the Catholic Church
2. Proficiency with technology, Microsoft Office Suite and social media savvy
3. Ability to prioritize workload to meet demands; time management
4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
5. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines; reliable to carry out job tasks
6. High level attention to detail; strong focus on personal development and program growth
7. Demonstrates an intercultural and intergenerational competency.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors Degree in Theology or Religious Studies with experience in field of Faith Formation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Entails some evening and weekend work.
