JOB DESCRIPTION - ELEMENTARY SCHOOL VICE-PRINCIPAL
Holy Spirit School (Pequannock, NJ) is accepting applications for a full-time vice principal for the 2023-2024 school year. We are looking for an individual who is committed to continually developing and maintaining an appreciation and respect for Catholic culture, identity, and values and raising student achievement by promoting academic rigor.
The ideal candidate will have:
A deep respect for and commitment to preserving and building upon the legacy of Catholic education at Holy Spirit School
At least 3-5 years teaching experience with a proven track-record of academic rigor and student growth
Knowledge of best practices and proven pedagogical techniques in elementary education
Excellent communication skills
Technological proficiency and adaptability
Experience with data-driven assessments to achieve student academic goals and inform instructional decisions and interventions
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others
The responsibilities of the assistant principal include, but are not limited to, the following:
Mission and Vision
Fulfills the school's mission to educate the whole child in the image and likeness of God: mind, body, and spirit
Demonstrates respect for and appreciation of the Catholic faith and Catholic education through words and actions
Establishes and maintains positive relationships with the pastor, school families, staff, parish organizations, community organizations, and local education agencies
Assists the principal in nurturing a school environment that promotes in the student the concepts of self-esteem, self-discipline, responsibility, independence, and service to others
Assists the principal in planning, conducting, and attending regularly-scheduled school and class liturgies
Personnel
Assists the principal in supervising and evaluating all full-time and part time teachers and staff members on a regular basis
Cooperates with the principal and pastor in recruiting and maintaining a staff of qualified educators
Delineates faculty responsibilities and expectations in a faculty handbook
Establishes regular channels of communication with families and staff, in conjunction with the principal
Administration
Maintains adequate records, including but not limited to Teacher Certification, Safe Environment Training, and Catechetical Certification
Supports with the professional development of the faculty
Attends professional meetings, diocesan and local
Assists the principal in conducting faculty meetings on a consistent basis
Assists the principal in reviewing teacher unit plans and overseeing the proper use of approved programs used in the school
Assists the principal in reviewing attendance, grades, student assessments, progress reports and report cards
Assists with special need services, counseling and evaluation meetings when requested by the principal
Assists the principal in addressing disciplinary actions with students and communicates with their parents so as to maintain a safe and secure school environment
Curriculum
Knows the scope and sequence of the present curriculum
Maintains a working knowledge of and familiarity with educational standards and requirements
Reviews curriculum in relation to school philosophy and the needs of present students
Researches best practice in regards to texts, resources, and programs
Reviews data, develops academic action plans, and monitors teachers SGOs
Coordinates, organizes, and facilitates NWEA MAP testing
Assists the principal in working with teachers to analyze student assessment scores to establish goals and strategies for learning and achievement
Develops in teachers the ability to use tests, assessments, classroom performance, and other designated evaluations and diagnostic tools to promote the academic growth of students and drive instruction and intervention
Finances and Government Aid
Actively participates in the strategic planning process
Oversees the encumbering of government funding for the school along with the administration
Governance
Promotes understanding and support of the school's vision, mission statements and objectives
Aids in setting school priorities to meet annual goals
Reports on progress of goals and objectives
Assists the principal in ensuring that the school maintains proper accreditation
Public Relations and Community Building
Supports the endeavors of the Home School Association
Works with the principal to market the school to prospective families and to analyze overall opportunities for enrollment of new students
Compliance and Strategic Planning
Assists the principal in annual revisions to the Parent/Student handbook and Faculty Handbook
Assists the principal in publishing a calendar of school events for faculty, students, and parents and communicates to the staff notices from the Catholic Schools Office and other educational agencies
Assists the principal in formulating, analyzing and updating school emergency crisis procedures
Assists the principal in formulating an annual calendar working within the parameters of the Catholic Schools Office and all parish ministries, ensuring that the required days and minutes are met as put forth by the state
Position Requirements:
Must be a practicing Catholic
A bachelor's degree from a competitive university is required; a master's degree is preferred
Active state teaching certification is required as well as administrative certification for performing teacher evaluations
Must pass background check
Salary commensurate with experience
