POSITION: Diocesan Director of Adult Faith Formation

INTRODUCTION:
The Bishop of Manchester is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular diocese entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocesan Administration Building helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description. All employees of the diocesan administration assist the Bishop of Manchester in serving the parishes, schools, and institutions of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire.
This position is accountable to the Cabinet Secretary for Catholic Formation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides leadership and is responsible for the ongoing development and support of programs and services for Adult Faith Formation, Family Faith Formation, Lay Ministry Formation, and the Catechumenate in parishes within the Diocese of Manchester. Works in collaboration with the Secretary for Catholic Formation and Catholic Formation staff as well as with parishes and all other related diocesan agencies and institutions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborates with the Cabinet Secretary for Catholic Formation to develop comprehensive programming on the Diocesan level and in parishes, supporting and providing resources for young adult, adult, and family faith formation, as well as lay ministry formation and the implementation of the Catechumenate process.
2. Develops and implements annual goals and strategies.
3. Outlines budget needs and adheres to approved budget in realizing goals and objectives.
4. Works in collaboration with the Director of Worship and coordinates the Diocesan Rite of Election.
5. Collaborates with the Director of Worship and oversees the preparation for and celebration of the Diocesan celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
6. Develops resources and programs in spirituality, including diocesan and parish retreats for women, men, and families, parish renewals, lay ministry training and formation in social justice.
7. Collaborates with the Diocesan Office of Parish Faith Formation, the Diocesan Office of Family and Respect Life Ministries, and related Diocesan Offices that resource parishes in all areas of adult and family faith formation, including lay ministry formation, the catechumenate, spirituality, and evangelization.
8. Develops and implements an annual young adult retreat.
9. Works with parishes to assess young adult, adult, and family involvement in lifelong faith formation.
10. Incorporates the needs and perspectives of different ethnic groups and those with disabilities in all programming.
11. Oversees and provides resources for the directors of College Campus Ministry for ministries related to young adults and keeps them informed of developments within the diocese.
12. Participates in on-going professional development.
13. Represents the Diocese at meetings of Region I DLENE (Diocesan Leaders of Evangelization in New England).
14. Establishes appropriate consultation and review to assure adherence to Church teaching in all programs and services.
15. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILS REQUIRED:
1. Master's degree or equivalent in Theology, or related field, plus 4-7 years of related experience in Adult Faith Formation, Lay Ministry Formation, and the Catechumenate with program development experience. Experience with Family Faith Formation is preferred.
2. Deep faith and personal commitment to the life of the Church, and a desire to teach and communicate with others.
3. In-depth knowledge of the Catholic Church, its mission, structures, and ministerial life, and in particular its teaching principles on family, singles, young adults, and seniors.
4. Demonstrated leadership skills, organizational ability, and desire for collaboration, together with competence to take initiative and work independently.
5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from a variety of groups.
6. Spanish and/or Vietnamese language skills are preferred.
7. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
8. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all members of the organization.
9. Knowledge and skills to do research, writing, and prepare formational materials and programs; ability to organize, conduct, and evaluate formation programs.
10. Ability to do long range planning and project management.
11. Ability to handle stress well and to schedule and complete objectives in a timely manner.
12. Must pass a background check, including a criminal history investigation in accordance with diocesan policy.
ENVIRONMENT:
The venue of this position is a general office environment that is clean, well-lighted, environmentally comfortable and only minimally exposes employees to office solvents limited to those relative to copier equipment.
