Position Summary
The Mission Office is responsible for promoting the missionary work of the Church, especially those of the Pontifical Mission Societies, which have the "leading role" in missionary promotion, ensuring "a suitable offering for the missions is to be contributed each year and sent to the Holy See" (Redemptoris Missio, 84; Can. 791 n 1-4).
The Development Manager is integral to this, overseeing details concerning the office's direct mail campaigns, quarterly newsletter, special collections, and event advertisement and promotion. Manages all these initiatives in a way that promotes harmonious, well-thought campaigns and increased support for the missionary work of the Church. Also supports agency operations by maintaining office systems and overseeing daily operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Development
• Collaborate with the Director to create development and communications strategies.
• Creates solicitation messaging and manages the design of direct mail appeals.
• Creates content for and manages the design of the quarterly newsletter.
• Coordinates all marketing efforts for the organization as related to events and annual campaigns.
• Identifies opportunities for donor engagement, appreciation, and cultivation.
• Manages planned giving and endowment initiatives.
• Runs queries and reports through Raiser's Edge to measure the performance of campaigns.
• Manages annual special events with the purpose of building and cultivating relationships with donors and generating revenue aligned with budgeted goals, including but not limited to: World Mission Sunday Mass, Prayers & Pastries, Meet the Missionaries, pilgrimages, and more.
• Collaborates with other (arch)diocesan offices throughout the United States for consistent messaging.
• Manages the Missionary Plan of Cooperation, accepting applications annually and recommending groups to the Director.
Administrative
• Responsible for administrative tasks related to office management.
• Enters invoices, purchases supplies, and manages staff purchase card approvals through COUPA.
• Responsible for payment of invoices and distribution of funds through the Finance Office.
• Prepares and oversees the Mission Office budget, its implementation and adherence.
• Prepares and submits the Annual Financial Statement and Reports of the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
• Reconciles monthly donor reports to Finance Office reports.
• Assists with updating and maintaining a shared donor database and national office donor database.
• Assists with office social media, web content, and communications material design.
Knowledge & Experience Requirements
• College degree or equivalent experience
• Experience with MS Word and Excel
• Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar CRM (preferred)
• Experience with Adobe InDesign (preferred)
