The Director of Religious Education will be in charge of the religious education activities of all ages in the parish in consultation with the Pastor. He or she will be responsible for developing and continuing current youth programs for grades 5-12, including weekly meetings, service projects, mission trips, youth conferences, Vacation Bible School, etc. Responsibilities will also include providing religious education opportunities for the entire parish, coordinating PSR classes, preparing young people of the parish for the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist, and Confirmation and assisting with VIRTUS training and record keeping.
COORDINATE PRESCHOOL-12TH GRADE PSR
1. Coordinate the PSR program for ages Preschool through 12th grade.
a. Set the schedule for all PSR meetings - make certain that communication lines are open about cancellations, etc. Schedule enough meeting time to cover the curriculum provided.
b. Meet with Education Commission as needed.
c. Recruit teachers for PSR programs in cooperation with the pastor.
d. Secure substitute teachers.
e. Provide in-service work with teachers as coordinated with pastor.
f. During the PSR programs days: unlock doors, check room temperature, check classrooms, greet students and teachers, etc.
g. If for some reason you cannot make it to the PSR program, recruit someone to do #1 above.
h. Coordinate &/or provide support materials and supplies for teachers and students as needed.
i. Order PSR books for all grades.
j. Provide disciplinary support when necessary.
2. Develop activities which foster growth in prayer and the celebration of the sacraments.
3. Coordinate Summer Vacation Bible School.
4. Assist with VIRTUS training and record keeping.
5. Provide up-to-date reports to the Parish Council concerning activities and plans.
6. Maintain necessary office and program records, including a log of activities and time.
7. Submit annual financial report and budget; administers budget throughout the year.
8. Work closely with the pastor and meet at least once a week.
9. Have a visible presence in the parish and the community, being a good example of the Catholic faith.
DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRY FOR GRADES 5-12
10. Serve students in grades 5 through 12.
11. Attend diocesan meetings and participate in diocesan and national youth events as coordinated with the pastor.
12. Spend time with youth and develop rapport with them.
13. Work with schedules of schools and community activities in scheduling youth events for our parish.
14. Keep the parish informed of youth ministry activities and goals.
15. Organize and lead youth retreats.
16. Identify areas of community and church service in which youth should become involved and implement activities so related.
17. Design and establish youth activities.
18. Help equip the parish youth with the resources needed to deal constructively with the unhealthy, immoral, or irreligious activities which tempt them.
19. Develop a network for reaching out to youth, particularly to the alienated.
20. Be available for listening, advising, and referral to additional resources.
21. Coordinate Confirmation Program with Deacon.
ADULT EDUCATION
22. Develop small faith sharing groups for adults in coordination with the Spirit and Worship Committee.
