Covering beautiful southern Missouri from the Ozarks to the Mississippi delta, Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri (CCSOMO) serves the thirty-nine counties in southern Missouri that are part of the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese. The area served encompasses over 25,000 square miles and many of the poorest counties in the state of Missouri. When CCSOMO was established in 2009, there were two employees and one office in Springfield. Today, there are approximately 110 employees with revenues of over $13 million and 9 offices spread across Southern Missouri. Most important, we serve over 7,000 clients annually.
The services of Catholic Charities are available to all residents of the service area who qualify for the particular program. The great majority are not Catholic. The priority is to serve the poorest and most vulnerable.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall executive leadership and operational administration of CCSOMO. The Executive Director ensures that the agency fulfills its mission to provide service to people in need through all stages of life. The Executive Director ensures that the agency is represented at the diocesan, parish and community levels, assists with the identification of community needs, and is engaged in program planning and policy formation. The Executive Director answers to the Board of Directors.
Specifically, the Executive Director:
Ensures that, in partnership with the governing Board, the Catholic Charities' mission and vision are carried out effectively, efficiently, consistently, and collaboratively.
Works with a talented, highly-effective staff to form a unified team and build a strong organizational culture.
Demonstrates business acumen, recommends budgets, oversees revenues and expenditures, and works closely with the Board and its committees to ensure the financial well-being of the organization.
Anticipates changing community needs with vision and innovation.
Initiates long-range strategic and operational planning, and is responsible and accountable for implementation of the organization's strategic plan.
Works closely with development staff to identify and solicit donors and funding partners in support of Catholic Charities programs. CCSOMO receives a number of grants from both government and private funders.
Persuasively articulates the necessity of Catholic Charities services to the community.
Marshalls resources of CCSOMO to respond to all natural disasters within the 39-county service area, including, but not limited to, case management, management of supplies/resources, home repair and rebuilding and volunteer recruitment.
Represents Catholic Charities to numerous community stakeholders, groups of associations and agencies, and the media.
Builds positive partnerships with the Diocese and parishes.
Qualifications and Skills
Commitment to the Values and Mission of Catholic Charities
Demonstrated knowledge of Catholic Church Social Teaching and Catholic moral theology and values.
Passion to serve the poor, the vulnerable and those in need.
Management and Leadership
Strong management abilities - demonstrated ability to lead a staff, delegate, oversee the successful implementation of programs, and build a strong organizational culture.
Ability to build strong collaborative teams and actively engage with staff.
At least 7 years leadership experience with significant administrative responsibilities, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
The ability to envision and convey a vision for the organization's strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers and donors.
Must be able and willing to travel with some overnights to cover the service area.
Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
Develop and maintain relationship with Members of the Corporation Board, specifically the Bishop of Springfield/Cape Girardeau (Chairman, Member Board).
Outstanding presentation and communication skills. The experience and ability to be an articulate spokesperson and organization champion.
Previous success in establishing external relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including civic leaders, partner agencies and volunteers.
A humble, and approachable demeanor with the ability to be assertive when needed.
Fundraising and Financial Management
Active fundraising experience, an understanding of nonprofit fundraising strategies, and major donor relations.
Demonstrated ability to cultivate new donors.
A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results.
Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $150,000 to $160,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include a full range of health insurance (medical, dental, vision, and prescription), pension plan, retirement contributions, disability insurance, life insurance, vacations, and other benefits.
