St. Croix Catholic School in Stillwater, MN is seeking a First Grade School Teacher (1.0) for the 2022-2023 school year.
Job Purpose: The Catholic school teacher is a highly skilled professional who works in close collaboration with the Principal so that he/she may effectively fulfill the various roles that must be assumed during the course of the teaching day. Each teacher who enters into an agreement with St. Croix Catholic School agrees to follow the Mission and Philosophy of the school and to work toward educational goals. The different instructional and non-instructional roles that a teacher plays should be permeated by a Christ-like orientation which is seen daily in what the teacher says and does in his/her classroom environment and in the larger school community.
Instructs children in the teachings of the Catholic Church by word and example.
Establishes the teaching of religion and the internalization of the life of virtue as the highest priority of the school.
Engages the student(s) in learning through the preparation of lesson plans that respond to a variety of learning styles, incorporating technology when applicable.
Helps students see the connectedness of all learning by developing integrated approaches to learning and by providing adjustments to the curriculum to meet students' needs and abilities.
Creates a Christ-like classroom atmosphere in which each child's personal dignity is respected.
Attempts to meet individual needs through individualized or small group instruction.
Displays children's work in the classroom and in the hall.
Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
Plans interesting and varied approaches when presenting content and materials.
Prepares questions for discussion.
Correlates home assignments with lessons taught.
Provides experiences which incorporate the use of the Seven Multiple Intelligences into the learning environment.
Engages in long-range as well as weekly planning.
Contributes to the faith community by personal modeling and participation in the life of the School, including but not limited to, attending All School Mass, Adoration/Benediction, Stations of the Cross, and any other all school faith-based gathering.
All teachers attend all-school assemblies such as Pep Rallies, Plays, School Band/Orchestra Concerts (as applicable to grade levels), etc.
Performs other duties and assumes responsibilities, (I.e. lunchroom/recess supervision, morning/afternoon duties, etc.) which are identified as needed by the employer and approved and/or assigned by the supervisor.
Keeps attendance records.
Checks homework assignments.
Evaluates student work.
Completes report cards.
Moderates extra-curricular activities.
Develops a Professional Development Plan, as outlined in Appendix A, to address student excellence in Catholic Schools in the areas of Academic Achievement & Integration, Virtue Formation, Spiritual Life, and Apostolic Discernment.
Submit the proposed plan to the Principal by September 1, 2022 according to the requirements listed in Appendix A.
Complete the plan by June 30, 2023, according to the requirements listed in Appendix A.
Participates actively and positively in faculty meetings.
Accepts membership on faculty committees.
Attends educational and diocesan workshops and conferences.
Checks mailboxes, voicemail, and e-mail at least before and after school.
Reads daily school communications, FYI's, calendars, etc. in a timely manner.
Responds to any phone calls and e-mails from parents within 24 hours, unless directed otherwise by the Principal.
Submits a copy of verbal or written communications to the Principal and office prior to sending home, if of a serious nature.
Keeps all staff, including the Principal and office staff, informed of any special events, time, schedules, special dress arrangements such as no uniform days, etc. so questions from parents can be answered or directed in an efficient manner.
Updates classroom web page a minimum of bi-monthly.
Becomes proficient & timely with the use of electronic grading/communication systems.
Complete background check process every 3 years.
Review Code of Conduct for Church Personnel annually.
Sign Code of Conduct for Church Personnel every 3 years.
Attend initial one-time VIRTUS Safe Environment Training and then watch update videos as needed.
Be a mandatory reporter for any suspected child abuse.
Always keep the safety of the environment at the forefront to ensure a safe environment for children and vulnerable adults.
To have and maintain a current teaching license.
A commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church and St. Croix Catholic School.
An ability to communicate effectively with St. Croix Catholic School students, parents, staff, administration.
Ability to work together and maintain a collegial atmosphere in and out of the classroom.
If teaching religion for Preschool through 5th Grade, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd training is required for the grade being taught (or active progress toward the completion of the required training).
