HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

Function:
To provide a continuous and on-going education which insures the best possible mental, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social development of all students.
Minimum Qualifications:
Educational: Possess a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling and possess a Michigan School Counselor Endorsement or a valid Michigan School Counselor License.
Personal:
Catholic in good standing
Ability to work cooperatively with administration, teaching staff, students and parents in the ongoing task of providing the best possible education for all students
Willingness to accept constructive criticism
Ability to function under stress
Willingness to adapt to changing situations
Desirable Qualifications:
Possess a Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling and valid Michigan School Counselor License (SCL)
Possess valid Secondary Michigan Teacher Certification
Have current LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) Certification or working toward LLPC (Limited Licensed Professional Counselor) Certification
Have experience working in a secondary counseling position doing college and career counseling
Have experience working in a Catholic institution
Major Responsibilities:
Academic, personal, and college counseling provided to individuals/groups with a variety of needs and abilities
Freshmen and transfer student orientation
Monitor student progress through electronic data system and act as an advocate for students as necessary
Develop and maintain student educational plans
Coordinate and administer AP testing
Interpret placement test results and use multiple measures for advisement
Maintain data
Maintain close working relationships with students, parents, faculty, partner schools, and community resource agencies
Counsel students on academic programs, post-secondary planning, provide crisis-intervention and referral services, as needed
Assume other responsibilities as assigned, including large group guidance presentations, department level collaboration; performance of other established duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Principal.
