    Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship

    Description

    Oversees the EMD staff for 8 major areas: Discipleship Formation, Engagement, Family Ministry, Evangelical Charity, Sacred Worship, Cultural Ministries, Campus Ministry and Deaf Ministry. Provides strategic direction and leadership for the efforts from the Archdiocese of Detroit (AOD) Central Services to our parishes, families and individuals to enact the missionary conversion called for by Synod '16 and Archbishop Vigneron's 2017 pastoral letter Unleash the Gospel. Leads a diverse team of individuals to bring about this missionary conversion throughout the AOD. This position reports to the Moderator of the Curia / Vicar General of the Archdiocese and serves on the AOD Central Services Cabinet.

    Duties/Responsibilities
    •Provide strategic direction and leadership for a wide array of projects related to the 8 major areas listed above.
    •Work with Central Services staff and parishes to implement the vision of Unleash the Gospel, particularly the Action Steps listed in the Pastoral Letter.
    •Create a culture of prayer and discipleship within the department to model the call of disciple-making Catholics.
    •Allocate resources across a series of budgets to support and implement the work necessary for an archdiocesan missionary conversion.
    •Provide recommendations and support for the Archbishop's evangelization and discipleship initiatives within and beyond the scope of Unleash the Gospel.
    •Build a culture of leadership among direct reports, helping them to lead and guide their teams.
    •Lead and direct ongoing formation for parish lay ecclesial ministers.
    •Support lay ecclesial minsters and others through the transition to "Families of Parishes" helping to train and eventually certify the 5 key "Mission Direct" positions in each Family of Parishes.

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
    •Strong oral and written communication skills.
    •Strong customer service skills.
    •Strong MS Office Suite (especially Power Point) and computer skills.
    •Ability to work independently and effectively handle multiple projects at the same time while meeting specific deadlines and escalating issues as needed.
    •Strong ability to work collaboratively and strategically with various staff, parishes, schools, councils, and committees including strong listening skills and understanding of the perspectives of various stakeholders.
    •Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
    •Experience with short- and long-term strategic planning.
    •Demonstrated leadership, management, relational and team building skills.
    •Strong advocate for developing employee and overall team capabilities.
    •Strong public-speaking, presentation, training and team building skills.
    •Strong understanding of and excitement about implementing the New Evangelization in an archdiocesan structure.
    •Proven ability to lead a large and diverse team while setting a strong vision in line with the Unleash the Gospel pastoral letter.
    •Strong knowledge of the workings of parish and arch/diocesan ministry.
    •Must be willing to work on a flexible schedule, including occasional nights and weekends.

    Education and Experience Requirements
    •Master's degree in Theology, Catechetics and/or Religious Education or related field required. PhD preferred.
    •Minimum 15 years' experience in a parish and arch/diocesan ministry required.
    •Minimum 5 years' supervisory experience required.

    Physical Requirements

    •Prolonged sitting and working at a desk with repetitive motion working on a computer.
    •Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
    •May involve some standing, bending, and walking.

    Travel Required
    •Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.

    •Must be a Catholic in good standing and adhere to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
    •Must demonstrate understanding, respect and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values.
    • Affinity for mission-driven, not-for-profit organizations and a commitment to serving the Catholic Church in Southeast Michigan.
    •Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding any archdiocesan information gained within the Archdiocese of Detroit.
    •Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
