Associate Director of Engagement

The Associate Director of Engagement under the direction of the Executive Director of the Department of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship is tasked to assist with the implementation of Unleash the Gospel in the areas of Evangelization, Catechesis, and Missionary Discipleship within the Archdiocese of Detroit to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ with rigor and vigor.

The work of this position includes supporting the Mission Direct area of Engagement in the Families of Parishes structure through the accompaniment and formation of parish staff supporting this Mission Direct area and its supporting ministries (Hospitality, Evangelization, Parish Communications, Ministry Placement). This position will also develop ministerial standards, resources, and methods to promote the centrality of evangelization and catechesis. This structure will help develop a path to discipleship within Families of Parishes that focuses on the application of the Catechumenate in the family as the model of catechesis and an emphasis on marriage as a second catechumenate, especially as it relates to building the domestic Church and attracting and retaining young adults.

The Associate Director is responsible for integrating and coordinating programs within all five mission direct areas which support the mission of the Archdiocese of Detroit to Unleash the Gospel, primarily as it relates to Families and Parishes.

Duties/Responsibilities
•Form and accompany Directors of Engagement to effectively oversee the ministries within this Mission Direct area (Hospitality, Evangelization, Parish Communications, Family Ministry Placement).
•Provide formation and training for the ministries within the Mission Direct area as needed; parish evangelization, kerygmatic instruction, pastoral formation on evangelization for Families.
•Work in collaboration with the Office of Family Ministry, Discipleship Formation, and Sacred Worship to propose the family catechumenal model and marriage as a second catechumenate as new family ministerial initiatives to strengthen collaboration and evangelization efforts for families within the Archdiocesan Family of Parish structure.
•Provides Families of Parishes with tools to track and measure engagement and the path to discipleship.
•Work in collaboration with all fellow Associate Directors within the department of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship in the implementation of Unleash the Gospel
•Develop practical methods of engagement to effectively evangelize individuals and families within the Family of Parish structure in the Archdiocese of Detroit.
•Provide ongoing accompaniment for Directors of Engagement through the following activities:
a)Provide Evangelization and Catechetical training.
b)Coordinate engagement meetings.
c)Develop & maintain an annual calendar of Office of Engagement sponsored events.
d)Develop and update Engagement resources, in collaboration with all five Mission Direct areas for parishes, families, and individuals.
•Provide information and support for the Executive Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship, bishops, vicars, pastors, pastoral staff, and parishioners as requested.
•Collaborate with all five Mission Direct areas within the Department of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship and other Curial departments and offices on programs and services as needed, in particular:
a) The Department of Catholic Schools
b) The Office of Cultural Ministries
•Encourage parishes to move from maintenance to mission, through the implementation of Families of Parishes.
•Assist parishes to identify the best suited evangelization strategies and programs.
•Represent the Archdiocese at state, regional and national levels as assigned by the Executive Director for Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship.
•Relate to Lay Movements within the Archdiocese, assisting them to be active in the work of the New Evangelization.
•Assist the Executive Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship in additional areas as required.
•Work on special projects as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities
•Coordinator of Young Adult Ministry

Education and Experience Requirements
•Bachelor of Arts in Theology, Catechesis or Pastoral ministry, Master's preferred
•Five years' ministry experience
•Certificate of completion of Protecting God's Children or willingness to attend workshop.
•Able to work some evenings and weekends.
•Must have experience with Office 365.
•Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Evangelization, Catechesis, Marriage and Family ministry with 5 years in ministry.
•Knows and understands the teachings of the Catholic Church in the areas of evangelization and catechesis as presented in Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the documents of Vatican II, Papal encyclicals specifically Evangelii Nuntiandi, Credo, Catechesi Tradendae, the General Directory for Catechesis, the Directory of Catechesis, and other relevant Church documents.
•Must demonstrate an understanding of the Catholic Church's teaching on Evangelization, the Kerygma, Catechesis, the OCIA, as revealed in Sacred Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
•Understands the thresholds of conversion and has experience evangelizing others and accompanying them to mature discipleship.
