St. Mary's Parish has a well-established music program that approaches cathedral level. We have a tradition of very skilled organists as our Music Directors, able to employ our magnificent Hutchings-Votey Pipe Organ to full advantage: http://stmarysholliston.com/music-ministry/st-marys-pipe-organ/.
The St. Mary's Position involves one Saturday Mass a week with Cantor (5:00 PM), and two Sunday Masses a week (9:30 AM & 11:30 AM), plus time rehearsing the Adult, Youth, and Children's choirs. The latter incorporate the Royal School of Church Music Program in the Spring semester and rehearse on several weekday afternoons. The Adult Choir rehearses Thursday evenings.
Additional liturgies to be covered include (but are not limited to), Weddings, Funerals, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, Holy Days and Masses for Sacraments of Initiation. Some of these liturgies involve collaboration with instrumentalists. An orchestral Spring choral concert is also part of our tradition most years.
The 5:00 PM Saturday Mass combines the best of traditional and contemporary music, led by a cantor. Integrating quality contemporary music into this Mass is a priority.
The 9:30 AM Mass is a Family Mass combining the best of traditional and contemporary music, sung by the Children's / Youth Choir twice a month, led by a cantor on the choir-off Sundays.
The 11:30 AM Mass is a Sung Mass, with primarily traditional music sung by the Adult Choir, which has paid / professional section leaders. The Music Director submits payroll hours for all singers and instrumentalists.
