Located in Braintree, MA, a Metropolitan Tribunal Judge is appointed by the Archbishop for cases concerning the nullity or dissolution of a marriage, as well as other canonical matters. The Judge reports directly to the Judicial Vicar. The scope of responsibilities include meeting with petitioners, intervening in all first-instance cases assigned relating to the nullity or dissolution of a marriage. You will review testimony, conduct depositions, participate in informational meetings on annulments and write formal judicial sentences. The Judge will participate in court officers' meetings, offer canonical counsel and review all assigned cases in the Court of Appeals plus compose judicial briefs as necessary.
The qualified applicant may be a Priest, Religious or Lay Person who must hold a Licentiate or Doctorate in Canon Law. The applicant should have demonstrated abilities in critical-thinking in a collaborative ministry environment with adherence and understanding of the Magisterial teachings of the Church. Well-developed interpersonal communications skill set and are essential; fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus. Must be a Catholic in good standing.
