The Boston Catholic Development Services Department is currently looking for a full-time Senior Writer/Storyteller to join their team. The Senior Writer/Storyteller will capture and share stories promoting the work being done throughout the Archdiocese of Boston in support of the mission of the Catholic Church. The person in this position will develop a wide variety of written communications, with a growing emphasis on multimedia storytelling, that inform, persuade, and promote across multiple platforms.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Writes original and engaging communications, fundraising, and marketing pieces, including correspondence, impact stories, newsletters, web content, news articles, video scripts, presentations, collateral, donor/marketing emails, media pitches, talking points, and social media posts.
Gathers information through research and interviews with internal and external audiences.
Working as a key member of the BCDS team, crafts storytelling/messaging to create cohesive narratives for sharing the impact of the work of the Catholic community of Boston with internal and external stakeholders.
Measures the impact of fundraising communications and develops recommendations to increase response.
Develops communications plans, content strategies, and editorial calendars as requested.
Edits and proofreads communications.
Manages multiple assignments and projects with various timelines while being flexible in working with deadlines and schedules.
Performs other duties as assigned in support of BCDS's objectives.
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Communications, Journalism, or English.
Minimum 5 years professional experience as a writer/storyteller for a nonprofit or service organization. Experience with fundraising communications preferred.
Strong understanding of story fundamentals and a keen sense of newsworthiness.
Stellar writing skills.
Intellectual curiosity and ability to produce engaging and relevant stories under tight deadlines.
Strong sense of urgency and ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interviewing skills; ability to ask effective questions and develop rapport/trust with story subjects.
Exceptional organizational, time management, and project management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop positive working relationships with Archdiocese personnel, senior executive-level staff and donors, and outside organizations.
Expertise with online platforms for content management, e-newsletters services, and social media.
Video editing experience and knowledge of PhotoShop and InDesign is a plus.
Strong skills in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
Willingness to support and effectively communicate the mission of the Catholic Church.
