Position Summary: The primary responsibility of the Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is assisting the Director of Faith Formation in providing continuing faith formation, social and service opportunities for middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grade 9-12) students of St. Mary's parish and for young adults (ages 18-39) of St. Mary's and surrounding Anne Arundel County. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, 12-month exempt position. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
The Coordinator will be directly accountable to the Director of Faith Formation. The Director will serve as the Coordinator's immediate supervisor. The Coordinator will be responsible for keeping the Director informed of all activities that fall under this job description and work with the Director in making decisions involving these areas of pastoral care, catechesis and ministry.
Job Responsibilities:
Youth Ministries
• Plan and coordinate separate, age-appropriate small group lessons and events for teens in middle school and high school in line with social, spiritual, and service themes & topics.
• Recruit, train, supervise and collaborate with volunteers and young adults on the ministry team.
• Meet with teens, parents and families to guide, assist, mentor and advise as needed.
• Plan and coordinate service and retreat opportunities that include candidates for the sacrament of Confirmation as part of their preparation process.
• Assistant with Confirmation sessions, retreats and liturgies as needed and communicated by the Coordinator for Sacramental Preparation and/or the Director of Faith Formation.
Young Adult Ministry
• Coordinate events and other programs that meet the social, spiritual and service needs of young adults, including but not limited to, Theology on Tap, bible studies, monthly Holy Hours, World Youth Day, an annual retreat, etc.
• Advise and assist young adults needing guidance, prayer and/or mentorship.
• Recruit, encourage, lead and mentor a team of volunteers to help run events and form young adults ministering to other young adults.
• Collaborate with other parishes in Anne Arundel County in providing young adult events.
Other
• Promote events/ministries through creative newsletters, social media posts, emails, bulletins, etc.
• Attend Archdiocesan and local Anne Arundel youth and young adult ministers' meetings.
• Coordinate the annual Boat Show parking fundraiser for youth and young adult ministries.
Job Requirements:
• Must be a confirmed and practicing Catholic able to participate fully in the Sacramental life of the Church.
• Bachelor's degree, required.
• Minimum of three years' experience in catechesis and ministry to teens and young adults in a parish setting, as well as an understanding of the unique needs and faith journey of young adults and young families.
• Familiarity with the USCCB document, "Renewing the Vision."
• A passion for the Catholic Faith, and the ability to accompany teens and young adults in developing and maintaining a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Ability to recruit, manage and coordinate teams of volunteers/ministers.
• Strong desire to be part of a faith formation team and work collaboratively with others.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be skilled at and comfortable with public speaking.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications as well as virtual platforms.
• Experience in using Canva desired.
