Second Grade:
St. Jude Regional Catholic School is dedicated to the development of the whole child - spiritually, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically - within a Catholic community of faith and academic excellence. SJRCS is seeking a Second Grade Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year to teach language arts, math, science, social studies and religion. The second grade Teacher reports to the principal and assistant principal while being an integral part of the lower school faculty team serving in an advisory capacity to the administration for the school’s policies, philosophy, organization, and curriculum.
Responsibilities:
● Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of SJRCS.
● Plan for instruction with logically sequenced objectives based on the curriculum standards of the Archdiocese of Washington.
● Collaborate with the lower school teachers and resource teacher to establish a consistent foundation for learning.
● Provide appropriate material and resources, both in print and digitally, for students of all learning levels to access and engage in learning. The teacher will utilize Google Classroom and other software applications such as IXL and Learning Ally.
● Review and adopt accommodations specified for students with CAPs or other learning plans. The teacher will collaborate with the resource teacher to ensure the success of resource students.
● Use varied assessment tools, both in print and digitally, to perform frequent formative and summative assessments. The teacher will schedule, supervise, and proctor makeup tests and classwork.
● Maintain grades for homework, classwork, essays, projects, quizzes, and tests. The teacher will post grades on the school’s grading platform every two weeks.
● Schedule, supervise, and proctor standardized testing three times per school year in accordance with ADW practices.
● Practice positive, consistent discipline in the classroom.
● Plan, schedule, supervise, and attend field trips.
● Plan, schedule, supervise, and attend religious sacraments in second grade including penance and first communion.
● Communicate with parents regarding academic, behavioral, social, and safety concerns.
● Attend weekly faculty and team meetings. The teacher will attend school functions outside of the school day as required by the Faculty Handbook.
Skills required:
● Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church.
● Knowledge of subjects taught, instructional methods and strategies, and curriculum differentiation.
● Knowledge of child development, learning, and behavior specific to elementary school grade levels. The teacher will have the ability to manage student behavior in the classroom setting.
● Skill in pacing and differentiating instruction. The teacher will have the ability to respond to individual learning needs.
● Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process. The teacher will have the ability to demonstrate gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals.
● Skill in collaborating with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning across the curriculum and across the four grade levels of SJRCS middle school.
● Ability to conference with parents upon request and respond to voice mail messages and email in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in Education-BA or BS four-year degree required.
● At least 12 hours in education courses and a valid MSDE teaching certificate preferred; obligation to become certified by MSDE within three (3) years of date of hire required.
Experience: None required, however, full-time classroom teaching experience in the content area and grade level preferred.
