The mission of The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the archdiocese is seeking a Social Media Coordinator.
The Social Media and Digital Design Coordinator reports to the Director of Digital Media within the Secretariat for Communications. The coordinator manages the ADW's social media networks and collaborates with the team to maintain a comprehensive social media calendar. Responsibilities include planning, creating and scheduling content and monitoring accounts to maintain active and appropriate engagement.
The successful candidate will have impeccable written communication skills, a detail-oriented approach, and an excellent understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church and the language required to communicate about those teachings. The role requires proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop and the ability to create compelling photo, video, and designed content. The candidate must demonstrate great integrity and good judgment at all times.
Duties & Responsibilities
• In collaboration with the Director, develop strategy and direction for social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Plan, curate, design and produce engaging social media content that inspires, educates, and informs our audience.
• Produce live social media content at liturgies and events that tells a beautiful, compelling story through written copy, photography, and videography.
• Produce digital content to promote events and initiatives of the various offices of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center. Focus areas include catechesis, evangelization, development, social concerns, and other ministries.
• Report to the Director on social media activity, engagement, and key metrics, and adjust strategy and approach as needed.
• Utilizing ADW's brand standards and existing design collateral from the Creative Director, produce digital design elements including graphics and multimedia content for social media, e-mail communication, and the adw.org website. Work with the Webmaster to produce digital design for web as needed.
• Be informed about industry trends related to social media, digital marketing, and digital design.
• Take ownership of assigned projects and support initiatives to advance the mission of the archdiocese.
• Participate and engage as a member of the Digital Media team and assist with other communications-related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Candidate must be a Catholic in good standing with a love for the faith and an understanding of and appreciation for the mission of the Catholic Church.
• Very strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written.
• Ability to integrate the fundamental elements of visual design to create work that communicates the intended message, optimizes the user experience, and is aesthetically pleasing while aligning with the ADW brand.
• Team-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Keen attention to detail and the ability to think critically and exercise good judgement on the fly.
• Must be able to take ownership of assigned projects with tight deadlines and manage unanticipated or unscheduled events outside of traditional work hours.
• Must be flexible for early morning, evening and weekend hours as needed.
Experience and Education
• Bachelor's degree in communications, Visual Communication, Marketing, or similar.
• Previous experience in social media management, content development, digital media, graphic design, marketing, and/or related work.
• Previous work in Catholic Church, Catholic parish, or religious non-profit communications preferred.
• Proficient with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, social media platforms, analytics reporting tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and basic photo and video editing apps or software.
• Bilingual Spanish skills a plus.
• Excellent copywriting and copy-editing skills.
Work Environment
• This job operates in a professional office environment. The employee routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
• This job occasionally works on location using cell phones, laptop computers and light camera equipment.
Physical Demands
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
• The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle and feel and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee will occasionally be required to bend and carry light- to medium-weight items such as supplies, light camera equipment and program material.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
• This is a full-time 40-hour a week position with evening and weekend hours expected.
