School Counselor

St Mary of the Mills Catholic School in Laurel, Maryland, is seeking candidates for a full time School Counselor for the 2023-2024 school year. The counselor must be able to work with students and parents to provide academic and personal guidance that supports the school's philosophy and mission of excellence in Catholic education. In addition to counseling, the position will be involved in our student council leadership, and teach classes that promote social and emotional health.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred in counseling, psychology, or social work
Knowledge of best practices and pedagogical techniques imperative

Responsibilities:
Active member of a faith community and being a model of the teaching of Jesus

Support and uphold the philosophy of the Catholic Church, Catholic education, and the school's mission

Meet with students individually and in small group settings
Provide support, guidance, observation and assistance to teachers regarding students' social and behavioral issues

Present appropriate social skills, mental health awareness, team building, and problem solving activities in classrooms

Provide materials for referrals to outside professionals for students needing additional support

Provide proactive leadership that engages all stakeholders in the diversity of programs and services to help students achieve school success

With approximately 230 students, St.Mary of the Mills offers student instruction from Kindergarten through 8th Grade. St Mary of the Mills School is a parish school that provides an environment that fosters creativity, a joy of learning and Catholic values.
