    Purpose of the Position
    The preschool teacher is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool
    program in accordance with the mission of Ascension Catholic School.

    uniqueness of all students in a caring, disciplined environment that exemplifies Christ’s command to
    serve one another. Ascension School fosters excellence in academics and promotes spiritual,
    intellectual, emotional and physical growth of the whole child.
    The faculty, supported by the parish staff, School Board, and the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO),
    recognizes that students must be prepared to meet challenges of an ever changing world and to live
    cooperatively as critical thinkers and problem solvers in a global society. Love of God, human
    dignity, justice, ecumenism, service to others, stewardship, and excellence are among the values
    lived.
    The vision of the Ascension staff is to foster a Catholic community that models Jesus’ teaching at
    home, at school and in our community. We strive to ensure and academic program of excellence that
    challenges each student to achieve his/her maximum potential. Our vision is to expand student
    involvement in global issues, technology, foreign language and cultural programs.
    Responsibilities
    Major responsibilities and target accomplishments expected of the position.
    1. Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate preschool program.
    Main Activities
     Prepare environment for physical and emotional comfort of all children in your care
     Plan, implement and evaluate lesson plans to meet the cognitive, physical, social,
    emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the children in the program
     Provide various experiences and activities for children including music, math, literacy, art,
    science, puzzles, dramatic play, manipulatives and technology
     Develop activities to promote 21st century thinking skills in children
     Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities
     Implement the Handwriting without Tears Curriculum
     Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities
     Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts
     Establish policies and procedures including acceptable disciplinary policies
     Provide adequate equipment and activities
     Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times

    2. Supervise children in the preschool
    Main Activities
     Ensure children are supervised at all times
     Build children’s self esteem
     Comfort children
     Establish routines and provide positive guidance
     Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable
     Implement positive discipline when required
     Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand
     Observe children and make note of progress
     Integrate special needs children in a positive and respectful manner
    3. Communicate with parents, principal, director and members of the parish and
    community
    Main Activities
     Discuss children’s development with parents by conducting parent conferences
     Attend Faculty meetings as scheduled
     Attend and Participate in PLC meetings
     Attend Staff meetings as scheduled
     Discuss identified problems and needs with professionals as appropriate
     Participate in parish activities
     Participate in community activities
    4. Maintain Program Administration
    Main Activities
     Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s
    progress
     Be knowledgeable of Kentucky licensing regulations and implement regulations in the
    classroom
     Be knowledgeable of the Emergency-Disaster-Preparedness as well as the school
    Emergency Management Plan and how to implement in the classroom.
     Be knowledgeable of Kentucky Orientation Training and implement the practices in the
    classroom
     Attend required professional development each year
     Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification
     Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential children’s files
     Develop daily activity plans
     Monitor the classroom budget
    5. Perform other duties as assigned
