Purpose of the Position
The preschool teacher is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool
program in accordance with the mission of Ascension Catholic School.

Responsibilities
Major responsibilities and target accomplishments expected of the position.
1. Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate preschool program.
Main Activities
Prepare environment for physical and emotional comfort of all children in your care
Plan, implement and evaluate lesson plans to meet the cognitive, physical, social,
emotional, physical and spiritual needs of the children in the program
Provide various experiences and activities for children including music, math, literacy, art,
science, puzzles, dramatic play, manipulatives and technology
Develop activities to promote 21st century thinking skills in children
Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities
Implement the Handwriting without Tears Curriculum
Develop culturally appropriate programs and activities
Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts
Establish policies and procedures including acceptable disciplinary policies
Provide adequate equipment and activities
Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times

2. Supervise children in the preschool
Main Activities
Ensure children are supervised at all times
Build children’s self esteem
Comfort children
Establish routines and provide positive guidance
Provide a safe and secure environment for children to feel comfortable
Implement positive discipline when required
Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand
Observe children and make note of progress
Integrate special needs children in a positive and respectful manner
3. Communicate with parents, principal, director and members of the parish and
community
Main Activities
Discuss children’s development with parents by conducting parent conferences
Attend Faculty meetings as scheduled
Attend and Participate in PLC meetings
Attend Staff meetings as scheduled
Discuss identified problems and needs with professionals as appropriate
Participate in parish activities
Participate in community activities
4. Maintain Program Administration
Main Activities
Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s
progress
Be knowledgeable of Kentucky licensing regulations and implement regulations in the
classroom
Be knowledgeable of the Emergency-Disaster-Preparedness as well as the school
Emergency Management Plan and how to implement in the classroom.
Be knowledgeable of Kentucky Orientation Training and implement the practices in the
classroom
Attend required professional development each year
Maintain current CPR and First Aid certification
Develop and maintain current, accurate and confidential children’s files
Develop daily activity plans
Monitor the classroom budget
