1st Grade Teacher

St. James School in Washington, Iowa is seeking a 1st grade elementary teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Applicants must have a #102 K-6 elementary teacher endorsement. Endorsements in K-8 reading and K-12 English as a Second Language #104 are highly encouraged. The classroom teacher is to fulfill the mission of St. James School by developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction, within established curriculum guidelines, to promote intellectual, social, and physical growth in the subject matter that will contribute to student development and achievement. The position oversees implementation of content area curriculum, participates in professional learning communities, and practices research-based strategies.

Washington is located in Washington County with approximately 7,000 people. We are about 40 minutes from Iowa City. St. James School has a long-standing tradition of providing a well-rounded education in a Catholic setting for 150+ years. The current staff continues to maintain the tradition of providing high quality academic programming while guiding students in grades preschool through fifth as they develop into life-long learners of their Christian faith. We are a PBIS school, we attend Mass on Wednesdays, and students have Faith Formation twice per week. Our school is made up of diverse families and classrooms. St. James has small class sizes with an average ratio of 1:15. We offer LIEP (Language Instruction Educational Program) and Title 1 services in reading and math, speech, and band lessons onsite. We also have PE, music, art, and technology. We collaborate with the public school for special education services.
