Director of Evangelization and Discipleship

The Director of Evangelization and Discipleship (DED) is responsible for the planning, coordinating, and administering of the evangelization efforts of the Catholic Community of St. Mary and St. Joseph, with the overall mission of fulfilling the proclamation of the Gospel through leading all people to a fullness of participation in the Eucharist, that all people may know, love, and live out the Eucharistic Mystery and bear fruit for the glory of the God and the salvation of the world. Through leading people to a real encounter and an ever-deepening relationship with Jesus Christ, especially in the Eucharist, the DED will help transform the local community - one person and household at a time - from being focused on worldly concerns to living as active witnesses of faith through works of mercy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Assist pastor in planning, coordinating, and administering mission-oriented formation for church and school staff
2. Recruit, develop, and direct an Evangelization Team
3. Direct evangelization and formation efforts for young adults and young families
4. Recruit, develop, and direct catechists for Faith Formation (grades K-5. and OCIA
5. Recruit, develop, and direct a team of sponsors for OCIA
6. Recruit, develop, and direct catechists for Baptism preparation
7. Recruit, develop, and direct sponsors for Marriage preparation
8. Assist pastor and principal in planning, coordinating, and administering evangelization efforts to school parents and families
9. Assist pastor, principal, theology teacher, and youth minister in planning, coordinating, and administering evangelization efforts to school students
10. Assist pastor and youth minister in planning, coordinating, and administering evangelization efforts to middle school and high school youth
11. Plan, coordinate, and administer evangelization efforts to active parishioners
12. Assist pastor and director of communications in planning, coordinating, and administering evangelization efforts to all people within the boundaries of St. Joseph, Corydon and St. Mary, Lanesville
13. Other duties as assigned by pastor

ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS
1. Purchase, sustain, and keep current materials as necessary
2. Schedule classes, secure spaces, maintain calendar
3. Prepare and monitor annual evangelization and faith formation budget
4. Other duties as assigned by pastor
C. Networking
1. Participate actively in Catholic community/parish events
2. Participate in regular meetings with pastor and pastoral staff
3. Collaborate with directors of pastoral ministry (e.g., pastor, principal, director of youth
ministry, etc.)
4. Collaborate with Archdiocesan and deanery personnel
5. Participate in regular meetings with community pastoral council; and community life and
event committee
6. Other duties as assigned by pastor
D. Professional and Ministerial Development
1. Participate in regular staff formation meetings
2. Participate in continuing professional development through formal courses and workshops
and regular reading of books and periodicals
3. Participate in an annual retreat and other opportunities for spiritual growth
4. Other duties as assigned by pastor

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
1. A professed and practicing Catholic with knowledge of Church teachings and structure
2. Willingness to foster the mission of the Church and the two-parish community
3. Excellent planning and organizational skills
4. Demonstrates interpersonal and problem-solving skills
5. Ability to work independently and highly self-motivated
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
7. Ability to delegate and collaborate effectively with a volunteer corps
8. Understands and adheres to the professional standards of conduct set forth by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis as well as any as outlined by professional degree/license, as applies

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
1. At least the equivalent of a bachelor's degree in Catholic theology is preferred.
2. Proven professional experience in parish ministry, in a staff or volunteer role, preferably in areas of evangelization, relational ministry, and faith formation
3. Experiences related to administration, which include working with people and program planning in Church or civic groups
4. Must be able to understand and comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct
5. Must be able to successfully complete the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training
6. Background screening required

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Lay ministers are vital ministers sharing the mission of the Church. They are expected to be role models and are expressly charged with leading parishioners toward Christian maturity and with teaching the Word of God. As role models, the personal conduct of every lay minister, both at Church and away from Church, must convey and be supportive of the teachings of the Catholic Church. A thorough description of Catholic Church teaching can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Determining whether a lay minister is conducting him/herself in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church is an internal Church matter and is at the sole discretion of the pastor, administrator, and/or Archbishop.
1. The employee is expected to attend evening and weekend events as necessary
2. Travel may be required
3. The need of the position may require extra hours beyond the normal schedule
4. There is some flexibility in determining summer work hours
