The Managing Editor, Content Team, will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of OSV periodicals and websites, including Our Sunday Visitor, The Deacon, and The Priest, with a focus on print and digital content. This position will be a critical part of a collaborative, creative team that seeks to provide the very best in Catholic commentary to evangelize, form, and inform in both print and digital media.
The Managing Editor will solicit, review, and edit content for OSV's consumer products according to OSV's publication style and editorial guidelines. Working with the editors of the periodicals and websites, the Managing Editor will offer suggestions and comments to improve the content.
Essential Job Functions (*=Non-essential tasks):
Drive the editorial calendar, ensuring a consistent flow of high-quality content that aligns with company objectives and is delivered on deadline
Identify emerging trends, topics, and opportunities in the Catholic Church to inform content strategy
Manage process of Our Sunday Visitor and content on OurSundayVisitor.com
Manage process of the monthly The Priest magazine and the bimonthly The Deacon magazine, including leading content and design meetings
Work closely with Digital Content Coordinator and Design team to develop fresh, creative, and innovative digital and print containers for OSV content
Assist respective editors in the planning of editorial content for both print and digital media
Supervise and coordinate freelance writers and correspondents
Copyedit and proofread content in conjunction with Associate Editors
Oversee relationships with authors and approve payments
Monitor digital content performance metrics, analyze audience engagement, and use insights to refine content strategies
Identify opportunities for content improvement and growth based on data-driven insights
Accomplish all other tasks or duties as assigned
Requirements:
Experience:
5-7 years of experience in Catholic communications
Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church
Preferred experience in writing and editing for a national publication
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or equivalent Liberal Arts field
Coursework in theology preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in areas of print and digital publication
High competency in copyediting, proofreading, writing, and story development
Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills to manage projects simultaneously
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong understanding of Catholic Church teachings and practices
Abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
Willingness and interest in working as part of a creative, collaborative team
Working Environment:
Depending on the candidate, hybrid and fully remote work is a possibility
Must be able to sit for the majority of their shift
