Position Title: Youth Minister
Location: St. Jude Catholic Parish, 5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, IN, 46237
Status: Full-Time
FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Director of Ministry Operations
II. POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Youth Minister is responsible for developing and enhancing the spiritual lives of middle school and high school youth at St. Jude, increasing their engagement in knowing, loving, and living their Catholic faith. The Youth Minister will assume leadership and responsibility for integrating youth ministry into parish life, with a focus on vocation and community.
III. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/DELIVERABLES
• Develop and deliver programming for high school and middle school Youth Ministry
• Serve as the Youth Ministry liaison to the Commission for Youth Ministry; attend monthly meetings, communicate Youth Ministry initiatives and support needs, assist with fundraising efforts, as appropriate
• Provide support for 8th grade Confirmation classes/retreats, as appropriate
• Develop and coordinate participation in Youth Ministry special events, e.g. summer camps, National Catholic Youth Conference, etc.
• Coordinate with the Communications Specialist to ensure appropriate and robust advertising and promotion of Youth Ministry events/activities on the parish website and social media channels and within regular parish communications
• Participate in staff meetings and planning/strategy sessions, as appropriate
IV. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
• Must possess a strong commitment to the Catholic faith, a passion for sharing the faith with joy and enthusiasm, and a willingness to foster the Church's mission
• Must demonstrate a passion for working with youth of various ages and development levels
• Must demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to collaborate in a team environment with youth, peers, and adult volunteers
• Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
• Must demonstrate strong time management skills
V. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor Degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education, or related field required
• Specialized training/education in pastoral ministry with youth/young adults preferred
• Practical experience of 3+ years in pastoral ministry with youth/young adults preferred
• Must understand and comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct, complete required Child Safety Training, and pass a background screening
VI. WORKING ENVIRONMENT
• Office space provided, with flexibility to work remotely, as necessary/appropriate
• Some night and weekend work required, in support of meetings, activities, and special events related to Youth Ministry
