Position Title: Parish Maintenance Technician
Location: St. Jude Catholic Parish

II. Primary Functions
Parish Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, operation, function, cleanliness and appearance of parish facilities, including building and grounds. This position provides coordinated maintenance services in all parish facilities and maintains the physical facilities of the parish. Further, this position maintains an inventory of supplies and assists with the coordination of volunteers and contractors.
III. Position Content
a. Essential Functions
1. Complete repairs and maintenance tasks on mechanical and other equipment, which may include HVAC, electrical systems, lighting systems, plumbing, doors kitchen/office/classroom equipment and appliances, furniture, fixtures & carpentry
2. Completes scheduled daily, weekly, quarterly, semi and annual maintenance tasks as it relates to each building requirements or needs
3. Assists in scheduled cleaning and tasks that include, but are not limited to the school, church, secondary buildings, classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning of sinks and toilets, trash removal, windows, floor cleaning, offices, cafeteria and storage rooms.
4. Assist with moving and or installing furniture, supplies and equipment.
5. Performs daily, weekly, semi and annual custodial duties e.g. floor care, painting, window washing, etc., as outlined by Director of Building and Grounds.
6. Maintain external grounds as necessary or requested throughout the year, including, but not limited to snow and ice removal and treatment, lawn maintenance, leaf/brush/tree removal, and inspection for litter and general condition of structures.
7. As needed, respond to emergency maintenance/custodial issues during after-hours and some weekends.
8. As needed, carry out additional duties as requested including necessary assistance to support the parish, parish staff, school staff, volunteers and contractors.
9. Provide a clean, secure and organized work or program area and facility as a whole.
10. Demonstrate responsible stewardship of all institutional resources such as supplies, materials, energy, equipment and people.
IV. Position Specifications/Requirements
a. Skills, Knowledge and or Abilities
1. Basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing skills are necessary.
2. Basic understanding & use of power & hand tools & willingness to learn how to use parish specific machinery.
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
4. Good interpersonal skills.
5. Good time management, organizational and planning skills.
6. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for periods of time.
7. Ability to lift 50 pounds and to have complete mobility in a work area.
8. Ability to perform essential functions of the position without creating danger to self or others.
9. Ability to work with minimal direction and to be self-motivated.
10. General knowledge of janitorial supplies and their application.
11. Ability to organize, manage workload and to meet deadlines.
12. Ability to handle multiple projects, duties and priorities.
13. Willingness to foster the Church's mission.
14. Ability to anticipate and problem solve issues and situations.
b. Education, Training and or Experience
1. High school diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and work experience that allows the employee to perform the required work.
2. Must be able to understand and to comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct.
3. Must be able to complete successfully the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Child Safety Training, Safe Parish.
4. Background screening required.
5. Valid driver's license required.
V. Working Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors as needed. Possible exposure to weather and temperature conditions. Possible exposure to cleaning chemicals and bodily fluid. Requires standing or walking for long periods. Occasional overtime may be required on evenings, weekends and during emergencies. Frequent bending and lifting.
