Director of Youth Catechesis

St. John the Evangelist Parish in Goshen, Indiana seeks a Religious Education and Sacramental Preparation Coordinator. We are looking for a committed Catholic with a deep relationship with Christ who will work to form the young people of our parish in the Faith. This is a full-time position with flexible hours and full benefits whose responsibilities include:
Supervision of weekly religious education classes. Classes are kindergarten - high school. Particular emphasis is placed on the two years of formation for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Classes take place in two sessions each Sunday, mornings and afternoons. The morning session is in English and the afternoon session is in Spanish.
Enrollment is around 300 students.
Supervision of weekly parent formation classes (in English and Spanish)
Candidates must be available to work Sundays during religious education hours (8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.). Other hours are negotiable with a minimum of two days per week in-office and remote work as a possibility on other days. Additional hours will be required during registrations each May.
Recruiting and training catechists for all classes
Communicate with parents of students (most of whom are Spanish speakers) regarding expectations for participation
Recruit and train catechists for adult formation classes.
All parents with children in sacramental preparation years are required to attend parent formation classes every two weeks.
Ensure compliance of students and families with all religious education program expectations.
These include weekly Mass attendance for all students in sacramental preparation years.
Ensuring compliance with Diocesan Safe Environment regulations and sacramental norms
Since the religious education program is our parish's single greatest area of need for Safe Environment certification, the Religious Education Coordinator will serve as the overall parish safe environment coordinator.
Working with volunteers to coordinate summer evangelization program for children
Position reports to the Parish Pastoral Associate
Qualifications
Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
Bachelor's or equivalent in related field preferred, other qualifications or experience also considered
Candidates must be fluent in English and Spanish.
Ability to work independently
Dynamic presence in the community
Ability to hold others accountable while providing a welcoming presence for volunteers and religious education families
