Assistant Director Communications

The Catholic Diocese of Savannah, Georgia is recruiting for an Assistant Communications Director. This position will have a primary focus on the monthly diocesan magazine, the Southern Cross, and will also be an integral part of the communications team. This position will work with a variety of creative content platforms under the direction of the Managing Director of Communications.

Specific duties include providing creative direction, planning, story assignments, and editing the 32-page monthly magazine as well as overseeing associated digital content for websites and social media. Management responsibilities include budget preparation and oversight, staff supervision, and project development. Some travel is required.

Candidates must be an active, practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church, and possess in-depth knowledge of Roman Catholic teaching, structure, and traditions.

To be considered, candidates should have a Bachelors' degree in Journalism or a comparable field and a minimum of ten years' experience in writing, editing, and/or designing for print and digital media, with progressive leadership responsibilities. Candidates should also possess sound critical thinking and judgement skills; excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, and a solid understanding of how to effectively communicate to a wide-ranging audience.
