What you will be doing
The Controller of the Diocese of Pueblo manages the overall direction, coordination, and work product of the Finance Department. The Controller safeguards assets and ensures accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal controls and checks. The Controller ensures the accuracy of accounting information recorded and reported to the diocese, parishes, schools, and related entities. The Controller produces monthly and annual financial reports and provides support and documentation to external auditors.

Essential Duties:
•Ensure the existence of a sufficient system of internal controls., guidelines, policies, and procedures.
•Ensure all departments have a clear understanding of their budgets and budget responsibilities.
•Prepare and provide company financials and reports (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, investment updates) to present to the Diocesan Finance Advisory Council.
•Manages annual audit process by working with the independent auditing firm and prepares audit report, including the financial statements.
•General Ledger account reconciliation and review.
•Maintain chart of accounts.
•Monthly review of accounts payable and accounts receivable for accuracy and timely payment.
•Maintain all loan documents to priests, schools, and other entities.
•Monthly review of credit card reconciliation.
•Monthly review and approve bank reconciliations.
•Assist departments in the coding of invoices.
•Review, approve, and monitor payroll for Catholic Pastoral Center and parishes.
•Supports department in maintaining paper and electronic filing system.
•Record depreciation, as necessary. Maintain equipment vendor contracts and inventory such as phone system, computers, printers, cameras, speakers.
Education:
•Bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business, or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred.
•A minimum of 5 years' experience in financial reporting, reconciliation, internal controls, database, and payroll functions.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
•Ability to demonstrate strong customer-service skills and establish good working relationships.
•Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and work effectively, using independent judgment to be in accordance with established policies and procedure.
•Ability to work autonomously and self-motivated.
•Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with a professional and positive attitude.
•Detail-oriented with the ability to define problems, research, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
•Proficiency in budgeting, document management, forecasting, financial reporting, payroll management.
•Proficiency in Microsoft office, Outlook, internet, database research, copy, printing, and scanning
•Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information
Supervisory Responsibility:
•There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
Work Environment and Required Activities:
•This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
•While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an individual office with a door. The noise level is quiet.
•While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects and talk or hear.
•The employee is occasionally required to stand or move about and reach with hands and arms.
•The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
•Vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Other Requirements:
•Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing and in full communion with the Church.
•Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation.
•Must have good driving record, current Colorado Driver's License, and automobile insurance.
