Job Title: Accounting Assistant

Reports to: Accounting Manager
Supervises: Volunteers
FLSA: non-Exempt; Part-time 20hrs/week, not eligible for benefits
Schedule: Monday- Friday with flexibility in schedule
Pay: $17-$19 an hour
Job Purpose:
The primary role of this position is to assist the Accounting Manager in his/her role. The Accounting Assistant will process invoices and purchase orders, carry out check paying process, assist with cash counting, file, and carry out bank reconciliations.
Goals & Objectives:
In accordance with sound accounting practices and principles, the Accounting Assistant will support the Parish mission by processing transactions and maintain accurate records for the following functions:
• Accounts Payable
o Create vendors for approval
o Process vendor invoices and purchase orders
o Run checks and mail them out
• Cash Counting
• Perform Bank Reconciliation
Duties & Responsibilities (to include but not limited to):
Accounts Payable
The Accounting Assistant is responsible for the timely and accurate recording in the accounting system, setup of new vendors and payment of vendor invoices.
• Code recurring invoices
• Distribute department invoices for coding and approval
• Ensure coding on all purchase orders are correct
• Perform data entry of approved invoices
• Run checks, provide to accounting manager for approval, get
check signatures, and mail checks
• Create new vendors and maintain vendor files
Cash Counting, Reconciliation, and other
• Assist with count for offertory, candle money, donut money, etc.
when necessary
• Perform bank reconciliation monthly for the Church and School
• Run reports as requested for ministries and other departments
• Assist with filing in the office
Skills and Requirements
• High school graduate and experience in general accounting and
bookkeeping
• Three to five years' experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Word and Excel, and
familiarity with online accounting software
