PART-TIME ACCOMPANIST | STARTING FEBRUARY 25, 2023

Accompanist needed for the Saturday 4PM Mass with cantor. Time required is typically
3:30-5:15. Position open immediately. Pay is $115/Mass (brief rehearsal with cantor is just prior
to Mass with music given at least two weeks in advance).
Our parish primarily does traditional, Catholic sacred music with mixture of chant and hymnody,
with a few contemporary pieces that require some basic improvisation. We have a 9-foot
Steinway D and a Johannus ONE keyboard organ that are used regularly at Mass. The organ has
only one manual (no foot pedal skills required), and has presets for the various parts of Mass (no
extensive knowledge of organ registration needed; if proficient in organ, more presets are
available). You must be able to play or learn legato fingering for the organ if you are primarily a
pianist since there is no sustain pedal.
Upon receiving your resume, the Director of Sacred Music may contact you to come in for a live
audition. This will include pieces that she would like to hear you play (some prepared in
advance and some sight-reading).
Qualifications.
• Degree in music and/or professional experience in sacred, liturgical music (including
hymnody, chant, and choral literature).
• Demonstrated ability in accompanying soloists and choirs (may be asked to substitute for our
main accompanist).
• Experience as a church accompanist strongly preferred (either organ or piano, comfortable
switching between instruments).
Responsibilities:
• Primarily accompany 4PM Mass on Saturdays throughout the year.
• Accompany some Masses during the high seasons of the Church year (Christmas and Easter)
and various solemnities and feast days
• Weekly time commitment approximately 3 hours (2 in person, less than 1 hour preparation)
• To learn and practice music selected by the Director of Sacred Music to a high degree of
preparation
• To participate, as part of the Music Ministry, in a collegial and collaborative manner
• To treat the people and the Church with respect and reverence.
