Assistant Director of Sacred Music

The Assistant Director of Sacred Music has an integral role in the music and liturgical ministries at St Clement of Rome Roman Catholic Church in Sun City, Arizona. Located in the heart of America's first over-55-only community, we are looking for a person with a specific calling to ministry with older adults.

Blessed with a generous congregation the music program enjoys a 2,000 square foot music suite with a Kawai grand piano and a 2-manual Makin (Great Britain) digital organ.

In the church we have a Makin digital organ (identical to the organ in the music suite), a Nakamichi (Yamaha) 6'7" grand piano, and a state-of-the-art audio system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To work with the guidance of a highly experienced music director and educator and a Pastor committed to orthodox Vatican II liturgy and music

As your growing skills permit, regularly play the piano (and preferably organ) for weekend liturgies, funerals, and special liturgies.

As your growing skills permit, regularly warm-up, rehearse and direct the 2 senior adult choirs.

Regularly serve as Cantor for Mass.

Create and maintain the Choir and instrumentalist binders for weekly rehearsals, weekend Masses, and Holy Day of Obligation liturgical celebrations throughout the year.

Assist with the creation of worship aids for weekend Masses and Holy Days of Obligation using the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro).

Coordinate with Safe Environment Coordinator to ensure that all volunteers are up to date on their required diocesan trainings.

Collaborate with the Pastor and Director of Music to support the liturgical rites needed throughout the year.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Active in the Roman Catholic faith community with a commitment to function in a manner consistent with the mission and ministries of the Roman Catholic Church

Knowledge of the Roman Catholic liturgy, including liturgical seasons and rites

Native English speaker with strong communication skills and the ability to professionally communicate (verbal and written)

Excellent capabilities with Microsoft Office applications (Office Suite) and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro required)

Ability to thrive in a collaborative and creative environment

Ability to lead/manage multiple projects and deadlines

Education and Experience:

Minimum Associate Degree in Music (or 3 years working as a paid church musician)

1-2 years of experience in a Church setting

Special Skills:

Basic proficiency in piano and the ability and willingness to learn the organ

A pleasant (non-performance major) singing voice, the ability to sing on pitch, and the ability to sight-read and play on the piano basic treble/bass (SATB) scores without rehearsal

The ability to pass a Safe Environment background check
