Ministry Team: Fiscal Management Office
Location: 356 Government Street, Mobile, AL 36602
Hours: 35 hours per week, 8:30 - 4:30, Monday - Friday
Reports To: Controller
This position is responsible for the administration of the Archdiocese and other related ministries' accounts payable functions. The Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for the timely and accurate communication, analysis, and processing of payables. This position is responsible for performing Internal Audits of the parishes within the Archdiocese of Mobile and also provides accounting support to the Fiscal Management Office of the Archdiocese.
Degree in Business Administration/Accounting/Finance, Accounting preferred
Three plus years performing payable or equivalent accounting functions
Experience with Fund Accounting
Experience processing 1099s
Is a Catholic living a life in harmony with the Catholic faith, or non-Catholic but understands this position is a ministry of the Catholic Church
Knowledge of finance and accounting principles and ability to critically analyze accounting information
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
A high level of attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure
Proficiency using Microsoft Office with strong knowledge in Microsoft Excel, internet based applications, and accounting software
Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing
Sole accounts payable accountant for large ministry made up of many departments. Will receive numerous invoices and questions of a wide variety. Must be able to prioritize workload in an efficient manner.
Responds to phone, e-mail, and interoffice communications related to Check Request Voucher (CRV) preparation and vendor information.
Responsible for processing checks, credit card statements, and initiating ACH transactions from multiple checking accounts in Abila MIP Fund Accounting system.
Critically analyzes invoices and CRVs for appropriateness. Charges expenses to accounts and departments for all CRVs using fund accounting principles. Records entry and processes checks and ACH through accounting system and online banking. Mails all checks. Files stubs. Reconciles processed work.
Maintains historical records.
Responsible for annual preparation of Form 1099s and related IRS forms.
Responsible for performing Internal Audits of parishes within the Archdiocese of Mobile by obtaining requested information, analyzing, conducting interviews with pastors and bookkeeper, and preparing a written report of the results.
Serve as back up for accounts receivable.
